MEDJUGORJE: THE STICK OF OBEDIENCE

 

..there was once a group of ascetics before the advent of  what today we now recognize as a monastic community...these ascetic religious occupied the arid desert regions of Egypt...they were known as the Desert fathers.....

.indeed the idea of the desert  in a symbolic spiritual sense conjures up notions of the desert of the soul to make a parallel..we each one of us on our spiritual journey must search the desert of ourselves and find God within..indeed as a result of the Sin of Adam we must wander in the desert cut off from God...since we have been cast from paradise and a state of perfect contemplation of God we must endure the arid places void of expedient grace...we must traverse the wasteland..as it mentions in Isaiah..

 

 

Behold I do new things, and now they shall spring forth, verily you shall know them: I will make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert

-Isaiah 43:19

 

…as it mentions in Isaiah God will do new things in the soul he will make rivers of living water in the desert…if the desert is a soul in a state of sin then through faith and obedience to Church doctrine and tradition living water of grace will flow as rivers of virtue within the soul…

 

…now among the Desert fathers there was a distinguished humble and obedient brother called..John The Dwarf…after years of mortifying his will and practicing various spiritual exercises and austerities he took it upon himself to try and excel in the virtue of obedience…on the advice of his spiritual Father Abba Pambo..St. John the Dwarf was advised to take a walking stick and plant it into the ground…indeed John the Dwarf did as he was told since he understood that renunciation of one’s own will in spiritual matters was a great blessing and very pleasing to God..since Jesus himself was obedient unto death on the cross…and so John sought to imitate his master(Jesus)…now John indeed planted this stick in the ground..after planting the stick of obedience in the ground he was told to carefully nurse this dead stick on a daily basis by keeping the ground around the base of the stick free from weeds…in a sense symbolically this can be taken as a doing a regular examination of conscience in the spiritual life… also he was told to fetch water every day and water the stick of obedience..indeed if a person who does not understand the spiritual life would think that this is quite a useless exercise….it is repugnant to the reason…we may draw a parallel here between what is happening at MEDJUGORJE..we see that the edict of two successive Bishops is indeed repugnant to the reason of those who say the SEERS themselves are seeing the Virgin Mary when indeed the Bishop has said there is nothing supernatural concerning visions at MEDJUGORJE..

 

…indeed to tend and water a dead stick is an insult to common sense and reason..however if we take the stick as symbolic of faith we understand that what is a darkness to natural reason becomes a dark light of faith to the reason which is wedded to faith…so we see that the stick represents faith and we see that tending to the stick represents works..and so we see that obedience to a spiritual father represents obedience to the church…indeed in order to get water in the desert John had to walk many miles..by the time he got back from his journey it would be late in the day and so we see that this walk to get water is a walk of faith…as in our spiritual journey we make a walk of faith..we exercise perseverance and we exercise courage…because John indeed was harassed by wild animals..in order to get water at the watering hole he had to contend with crocodiles and snakes and other wild beasts…in a spiritual sense these beasts represent our own desires and the temptations of the devil….we all must fight our own desire on our quest for virtue…the water we use to tend to our stick of faith are all our good works which are nourished by the sacramental life…

 

…indeed John the dwarf after tending to his stick of faith  and obedience found to his delight that it started to blossom and bear fruit after a period of three years…so we see that our works coupled with self-mortification which is indeed an exercise that can be repugnant to common reason will in the end yield fruit…however when a person through complacency or arrogance ignores the advice of a spiritual father all their acts then become self centred works and these works although seemingly holy are not blessed by God…by turning away from our spiritual fathers our works become an offense to God,,,since we are united to heaven through the magisterium of the church…

 

…the lessons one receives from such a story are manifold…indeed one is humbled by following advice which is repugnant to the reason yet not sinful in nature…by mortifying the reason one thinks of others more than oneself and by doing so emulates God … since God descends to our level to raise us up to his…indeed God by giving us reign over his creation has put himself at our service…since nothing we have comes from ourselves…all that we have comes from God and by making us master of his world he places himself at our service…all we can give God is our obedience we cannot glorify him any more since he is imperfectible…we can only glorify ourselves through him by offering ourselves through obedience and so by our gift of obedience we become free and eternal in heaven…we become a praise of his glory just as St. Paul wrote…

 

That we may be unto the praise of his glory, we who before hoped Christ:

…so when we are obedient to another we become closer to God since in spirit we seek to bring each other to the same level and consequently we bring heaven to earth and unite ourselves through a motion of spiritual consanguinity , reconciliation  and peace…this is true humility…John following the advice of his spiritual father was courageous and displayed fortitude and mortification of his pride…by his concession to another he appeared as a laughingstock before his other brethren who indeed saw this as a futile exercise…indeed a fool for Christ…so by undertaking this task of watering the stick of obedience…John received the great reward..and in the end he was able to share the fruit of his obedience which spiritually are all the virtues he garnered from his faith and his obedience….

 

“It seems to me that for those who live in monasteries obedience is a higher virtue than chastity, however, perfect. Chastity is in danger of pride, obedience has the promise of humility.”

..indeed among the desert fathers it is said that God loves nothing more than those little children of his who obey his superiors or even the least among his community...holy obedience engenders all the virtues while blind obedience in this case to SEERS which is contrary to holy obedience obviates the magisterium and subverts the economy of salvation and the church to which the adherents to MEDJUGORJE perfidiously cleave whether astuciosly(by cunning) or through complacency...in effect what we have in MEDJUGORJE is an insipient form of Cafeteria Catholicism insidiously disseminating into the bulwark of the faith..the smoke of satan ....through which many grievous errors may flow into the church in an attempt to sully it from within....

...The Catholic Encyclopedia tells us that restricted indifferentism while it indeed appears to promote tolerance(false ecumenism) and peace....indeed it is a frame of mind that is poisonous to the spiritual tenets of the one true church.....

“The dictatorship of relativism decrees that tolerance is the only virtue. Because there is no such thing as truth I must tolerate ‘your truth’ and you must tolerate mine. The problem with this is that tolerance must eventually end in decadence. It ends in decadence because if there is no truth, then there are also no moral standards, and if there are no moral standards, then anything goes, and if anything goes, then decadence is the result.”

…and so we may safely say MEDJUGORJE is spiritually  DECADENT..since it espouses a threshold of religious tolerance and false ecumenism…..indeed we are to love our neighbor but we are not to embrace error….creeping syncretism

..for to obey a Bishop's decree concerning private revelations in some cases while to defer them to the opinion of our will  in other occaisions..is indeed special pleading

But it is injurious to God, Who is truth itself, to assert that truth and falsehood are indifferent in His sight. ….However in MEDJUGORJE we have revealed to us by the Virgin that all religions are pleasing to her Son….you would think that millions of people in error would be a concern for Jesus and that he would desire conversion or prayers of intercession for the conversion of sinners or even anticipatory prayers to this effect or the consecration of victim souls as sufficient salutary oblations etc……indeed Jesus might be dismayed rather than pleased…

                                                                       

(Question to SEER) "Is the Blessed Mother calling all people on earth to be Catholic?"

(SEER:) "No! The Blessed Mother says all religions are dear to her and her Son. She says it is we on earth who have made division."

....well indeed what is one to understand of this answer....all religions are dear to Jesus???...indeed all people are equally loved by God..and all people are born with the potential to end in beatitude and hence become equal sharers in the beatific vision according to their degree of grace...however all people are not equal in merit before God..and all religions indeed are not equal....if this were the case then the notion of merit and guilt would be non essential..hence we would need to throw objectivity out the window....maybe we should give the SEER the benefit of the doubt..as some vital details may have been lost in the cognitive transcription of the message...nonetheless there is a problem with the message...as it stands it points to restricted indifferentism

....if all religions are dear to Jesus then we can say the blood of the martyrs holds no particularly great merit...one example of a brave martyr is John DeBrebeuf one of the Martyrs of Huronia in Midland Ontario Canada..


...when we consider the cost in the coin of love he paid to plant a green bower of love in the new world at the price of incomprehensible suffering ...let us see what he endured for the love of Christ and his church including her bishops in good standing...

...We see John DeBrebeuf..after spending years learning the language of the natives he was trying convert which in itself was a terribly difficult undertaking..he also endured constant danger of reprisals and threats of death and capture...finally he was taken prisoner by an enemy tribe and subjected to....



     1.     Torture for hours before being killed

2.     Stripped and tied to a post

3.     Burnt on various parts of his body

4.     Had his lip cut off, due to the fact he was consoling and preaching to his compatriots

5.     Had his fingernails ripped out

6.     Had a heated rod forced down his throat

7.     Collar of hot hatchet heads (axe heads) tied around his neck

8.     His executioners cut off strips of his flesh and cannibalised him (ate his flesh)

9.     Scalped him (removed the top portion of skin including hair from his cranium)

10.   Drank his blood

11.   Ripped his heart out and ate it

12.   Poured boiling water on his head in a mock baptism

....indeed it was recognized at the time and in the consequent time that this martyrdom and the other deaths were PROOF that God had blessed this mission and that it would be successful....so we see a contraindication to martyrdom  in the message of MEDJUGORJE....the deaths of martyrs in vain?????....

..the Canadian martyrs.. The Martyrs are St. Jean de Brébeuf (1649) St. Noël Chabanel (1649), St. Antoine Daniel (1648) St. Charles Garnier (1649) St. René Goupil (1642), St. Isaac Jogues (1646),St. Jean de Lalande (1646) and St. Gabriel Lalemant (1649)

The indifferentism...the arrogance and spiritual complacency....indeed it makes one weep.....we cannot condemn each other as we are all prone to bouts of frailty..however we must be vigilant and examine our conscience to keep it free from abberant ideas...

....at their next adoration session as an exercise in recollection I entreat the advocates of MEDJUGORJE to meditate on the sacrifice this great saint (John DeBrebeuf) has made for the church of Christ and his bishops in good standing....and if possible try to reconcile the contradictory message we have received from the SEER at medjugorje...

..so we see in MEDJUGORJE we have a select group of individuals who share in some secret knowledge..to which no one outside of their small cadre of holiness can be privy to..indeed we are told that prayer and fasting may overt the calamities which will befall us however we are never told what we are to fear...hence we are to fear nothing more than fear itself...yet by these same seers we are told to embrace peace...in this duplicitous message how can one live in a constant state of impending disaster yet at the same time hold to a spirit of calm and serenity interiorly???...
                                                                      

...hence one becomes a slave to the apparitions..since this interior state of dread caused by the secretism causes a morbid and fantastic dependence within the soul...one must follow the apparitions and the messages so as to keep abreast of the information...if one wishes to be part of the secret club then one must be INFORMED...lest one misses any part of the directive and fall into calamity...so we see people wrapt with curiosity as to the contents of the next message in hopes that some new state of affairs or directive for action be made manifest...yes this whole phenomenon is a well orchestrated operation to subvert church authority by usurping the throne or primacy of Christ....

... The occult (from the Latin word occultus "clandestine, hidden, secret")…yes well indeed we have a hegemony …where a select group is influencing a veiled power over others through a clandestine secretive pact…

….we are told by the seers that the VIRGIN has confided many secrets to each one…however we as the intended beneficiaries of God's grace are never made privy to any concrete communications...the element of the numinous is being used to keep us entranced and to pique our interests in a string of banal messages...the secrets become the dressing on the salad..so that we dont get tired of the fare....

                                                                                  

                                                                                

…this begs the question…if the VIRGIN loves us so much..why does she keep secrets from us???....indeed maybe we cannot handle the truth???...indeed is the VIRGIN MARY hiding information from us ..information that will save us from imminent doom…what is one to think???...

…in effect the VIRGIN is insulting our intelligence and sensibilities…from this message of inherent secretism we are told that we do not have the capabilities to be held responsible for figuring out our role in the mystical body of Christ..we are told to rely on the seers and the messages and leave the THINKING to them..all we are told to do is pray and fast and to think peaceful thoughts in oblivious adoration..all the while keeping in the back of our minds the impending disaster which awaits us lest we lose track of diligence and fail to meet our end of the bargain..indeed this is quite the cult mentality..it is a coercion of fear…mind control…

                                                                   

..indeed followers of the messages are made to feel guilty if they do not pray or fast…devotions are turned into chores…as St’ Louis DeMontfort tells us in his treatise on true devotion to Mary..he tells that there are also false devotions to Mary…

Superficial devotees are people whose entire devotion to

…a society based on secretism points to a social elite … secret carriers….who through the possession of some sacred communiqué place themselves on a higher intellectual plateau…the seduction of the uninitiated occurs when a timid and lost soul wanders into this web of deception…the secret adds mystery and intrigue to a dull and tepid life...the secret becomes the seduction....people who have been slaves to addiction or those who are emotionally vulnerable due to emotional abuse or loss of a significant other and who have trouble making up decisions for themselves tend to fall prey to this type of phenomenon…the seers and the messages now play the role of the drug or the significant other who was the dominant figure in past relationships whether abusive or otherwise…Dependent personality disorder (DPD), formerly known as asthenic personality disorder, is a personality disorder that is characterized by a pervasive psychological dependence on other people...

                                                                    

..a dependent personality falls amid the C Cluster of  personality disorder classification and this type of person is generally very ANXIOUS and insecure..hence the need for someone to control them and offer them constant assurance..as well they are a prime candidate for long pilgrimages and constant journeys since they are impatient and solicitous and cannot sit in one place for too long... this resltlessness is assuaged by following the seers as they make their way around the globe or by visiting medjugorje ad nauseum..some adherents have indeed visited 20 or even 30 times... so we see that this type of person falls prey to the message of MEDJUGORJE more readily..which is one of PEACE...if one prays and fasts and attends the sacraments then peace will ensue...indeed it is good to do all these things however it is bad to subvert the normal authority of the church and replace that authority in a maverick cavalier way as the seers of MEDJUGORJE have done...let us all examine ourselves through a recollected conscience....amen

....in the late 1960’s and all through the early 1970’s a strange insurgence of supposed heavenly messages from our Lord and Our Lady was transmitted to one Clemente Dominguez of Palmar de Troya in Spain...the visions apparently began with four peasant girls and then abruptly ended however the visions continued on with Clemente and other seers of which Clemente was the chief who ran with the show so to speak....this man would then through the advice of Jesus and Mary set up a schismatic sect of the catholic church known as the Palmarian Catholic church...in 1978 Clemente Dominguez eventually had himself elected pope of this new offshoot of the catholic church...calling himself Pope Gregory XVII ...as well as having visions of Mary and Jesus this false seer also claimed to have the stigmata and as well receive visions of Padre Pio...

 

..now indeed this does seem beyond belief to the average catholic lay person...however if one searches the internet they will indeed find that this church after separating from the true church actually excommunicated the true Pope John Paul the Second who is now beatified...as well this church is still functioning and apparently it has many followers from different countries as well as 60 bishops and various religious such as nuns and clergy....

                                                              

...the Palmarian version of St.Peter’s Rome or the See of the Palmarian Church as it stands today in Spain...

 

...indeed just as in MEDJUGORJE this false seer seduced many laypeople to follow him as well as bishops and clergy...he in fact used one bishop who strongly believed in the charismatic cult leader to ordain Clemente  even though Dominguez had no prior religious training..so Clemente was ordained by a bishop  so that he could fulfill the prophecy that Jesus himself had made to Clemente concerning his false ecclesial authority ...it is really astonishing when one thinks about how ugly the ramifications of a false vision can become....and how so many can be led astray by one wrong-minded man who was influenced by the devil and his own lust for power..it is true when one says the will to power corrupts the power to will...or that absolute power corrupts absolutely....

 

..indeed this false seer passed on messages from Mary and Jesus...exhorting his followers to attend the sacraments regularly...to visit Jesus who he was told by Mary is so alone in the tabernacle...indeed adoration and prayer of the rosary were two of his chief vehicles to influence piety and help legitimize his seduction... just as in MEDJUGORJE..people are called to disobey the authorized magisterium at that place and to follow the advice of the seers...in both places the message SEEMS holy..however the disobedience to established church authority exposes the deception....

                                                                                   

..indeed just as in MEDJUGORJE..the virgin at Palmar de Troya called herself the QUEEN OF PEACE...as well she also used the familiar adjuration to PRAY, PRAY, PRAY...just as in MEDJUGORJE... as well the exiting remark of..thank you for having to responded to my call..was also used by the Virgin at Palmar de Troya  as it is often used in the messages of MEDJUGORJE for those who are slavish devotees of the message this valediction is quite familiar...as well many messages are eerily and uncannily similar to those messages that the seers purvey at MEDJUGORJE...it should be noted that before Clemente established his new church he evangelized his messages and he did visit Yugoslavia in the mid 70”s and so information on the style and content of his messages which he received from the Virgin and Jesus were available to interested pilgrims...and one must emphasize the fact that all this happened a full 10 years before MEDJUGORJE..however the similitudes are too obvious to discount

 

...so we see that years before the phenomenon at MEDJUGORJE....a similar phenomenon of false piety and perverted spirituality had already raised its nefarious head...we see that it is too much of a coincidence that the Virgin of MEDJUGORJE who calls herself the QUEEN of PEACE would also approximately 10 years before show herself to another false seer and claim the same epithet of QUEEN OF PEACE...

                                                          

...indeed it is one of the seers of MEDJUGORJE who tells us that the Virgin has said what we are witnessing in MEDJUGORJE has never been seen ever before ...and that Mary would never appear anywhere as she has in MEDJUGORJE.... yet the Virgin apparently did reappear using similar machinations 10 years before ...just as Clemente claimed in Palmar de Troya...the Virgin told him that what the people would be witnessing had never been seen before .... how one wonders can the Virgin the QUEEN of PEACE contradict herself so manifestly....how could she condone schism.... how could she anathematize the church of her Son so badly???....pray for us all...amen

 

...so we see the major difference between MEDJUGORJE and PALMAR DE TROYA is the subtlety... MEDJUGORJE IS more subtle so the nuances of the inconsistencies are harder to spot....yet for the perspicacious observer the signs remain...

The three theological virtues of faith hope and charity are necessary for a person to proceed in the way of habitual grace... to progress one must have faith in order to enlighten the intellect to the things of God...faith is a dark light to the senses...faith is not based in emotion which is a lower power of the soul...faith works through the highest powers of the soul the intellect and the will...and so faith orders our intellect towards truths beyond the sight of our rational mind’s eye...also we say that faith is to will for something we understand to be the first truth and we hope for this thing which is unseen...guided by divine inclination through habit...we form ourselves through continual participation in the sacraments...faith becomes the substance of what we hope for...so we see if what we hope for is already present before our eyes..then we no longer need to exercise our faith..since we see what we hope for..through continual daily apparitions....this in effect weakens our faith...if we want to make faith a habit of our mind..we must strengthen our resolve thorough acts of charity..then the things we hope for become more deeply entrenched in our hearts and so we hope all the more for the things unseen...and so it is hope which unites us..we are falsely united by visions which appeal to our lower appetites (desires)…and so we say God is hope

 (Romans 8:25): "We hope for that which we see not"

 

….for what we see we cannot hope for..in effect through daily visions we get respite on our journey of faith and we lose opportunities to gain fortitude and perseverance as well as courage and patience… so we see from placing our faith in the things seen we lose out on obtaining many other virtues that can aid us in progressing on our journey…. The adherents to the message of medjugorje tell us we must go and see and experience the phenomenon at medjugorje..we must see the sun spin and and we must witness the spectacle… in effect what we are advised to do is to contradict scripture…

 

Romans 10:17  “[17] Faith then cometh by hearing; and hearing by the word of Christ.”

 

 

…scripture tell us faith comes by hearing and once heard passively the active intellect processes this information …if one has faith the will then gives its assent to follow..however in medjugorje we do not hear the voice of God since God works through his church..and the church has stated through her bishops that nothing supernatural is occurring and so if we have faith in the church we will not follow..this hearing by the word of Christ..allows the intellect that is bent over and blinded by sin to see the object of its desire..this is not a physical sight..it is a metaphysical spiritual sight…a sight that connected to charity and hope comes into fruition after a soul hears the voice of her beloved and goes on its quest to attain virtue by Christ’s commands..that is why Jesus said if you abide by my Father’s commands we will come and abide within you ..the lover will receive a garland of lilies pleasing to the Lord…as John of the cross says in the ascent of mount carmel that once the soul achieves divine union …

we attain God through acts of love..and so we can say God is love…

 

 

…not by following vain visions which appeal to our sense of self love…and we see this is how the devil subverts love by replacing it with vanity..

 

Ecclesiasties  1:2   [2] Vanity of vanities, said Ecclesiastes vanity of vanities, and all is vanity.

 

 Revelations  2:7     He, that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches: To him, that overcometh, I will give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of my God.

 

…to those who are patient, courageous and perseverant….to the ones who have fortitude and faith in adversity..they will overcome ….the ear is symbolic of faith..to hear what the spirit says is to understand by Christ’s words…Christ has told us to love God with all our heart..indeed if we love God with our entire being then we shall abide by the words of the shepherds that Christ has commissioned to shepherd us to safety…..

 

…when one seeks solace from visions and emotions and fleshly desires they scatter the intellect through their lower appetite..in effect such a one weakens the faith by dividng itself from within…so the scripture in a moral sense tells us…

 

Matthew  3:24    And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand

 

…if as st. Augustine tells us the kingdom of God is within…and we see that we aquire this kingdom through a walk anchored in faith…and if faith guides the intellect then we see that..visions and desires and emotions will defile our intellect and in turn weaken our faith..so when we hit periods of dryness and bitterness we run the risk of losing our faith since it is not rooted in mortifications but emotions and feelings of the flesh….people run the risk of falling out of faith.. and we end up running over ground we have already traversed..because we don’t cultivate virtues of patience and fortitude…or we go back to the beginning and end up in a vicious circle.. our devotions become dry and boring (empty) because they are not rooted in faith hope and charity…so a person who relies on daily visions completely closes themselves off to the true path of spiritual progress and replaces it with a counterfeit way and this is how the devil subverts good and holy exercises with tricks and gimmicks….

 

Galatians  5:5   For we in spirit, by faith, wait for the hope of justice.

 

…..a person who is just respects the rights of others….now our pre-eminent right is to possess God in all his inherent goodness according to the measure of our love as we have served him through our vocation….as well if justice is correctly understood we will see that justice is a habit where everyone gives to each person as according to the will of God….since the will of God resides in Christ..since Christ is the Word incarnate…we can see that each person must in order to be just do their best to guide their neighbor to the church of Christ…at MEDJUGORJE  we apprehend the contrary…we see an obstinate attempt to guide people away from what the church of Christ tells us…and so we endure injustice

 

…as in Babylon the people are turning each to their own …and by doing this they are becoming scattered and divided in a spiritual sense…since each person is a slave to their desire they are all speaking a different spiritual language and so like in Babylon they are scattered since spiritually they are not seeking God by his one source which is the church of Christ…. Remember the bishops belong to the church of Christ…when we ignore a bishop who is acting within his rightful authority then we ignore Christ…

 

..so anchored in faith, and by works of charity we place our hope in the cross…not in daily apparitions or monthly messages…amen
